For the First Time: 7 Iraqi Journals Ranked Q1 in 2024 Scopus Quartile Update

In a remarkable achievement for the Iraqi research community, Scopus has released its updated 2024 CiteScore metrics and quartile rankings, revealing an unprecedented success: 7 Iraqi journals have entered the prestigious Q1 quartile for the first time in history. This milestone not only reflects the growing quality and international visibility of Iraqi scholarly publishing, but also highlights the sustained efforts by academic institutions, journal editors, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Iraq.

In total, 38 Iraqi journals are now indexed in Scopus, with 19 of them receiving new or upgraded quartile classifications. This progress marks a turning point and demonstrates Iraq’s commitment to fostering credible and competitive research outlets that meet international standards.

How to Check a Journal’s SJR Quartile

1. Go to the SCImago Journal & Country Rank website:
   https://www.scimagojr.com

2. Search for the journal by name or ISSN:
   Enter the journal’s title in the search box and click "Search".

3. Select the correct journal from the results:
   Click on the journal name to open its detailed profile.

4. Find the Quartile Information:

   • Look under the “Subject Areas” section.

   • You will see the journal’s SJR indicator, H-index, and Quartile rankings for each subject category it belongs to.
